Twitter’s own version of universal search results

Twitter Search
Micro blogging giant twitter has updates its search support with new features. Users can now get photo results, recent queries and social contexts.

The changes of twitter.com align the desktop interface with the current mobile experience. So what’s new with twitter search? The changes were announced via tweet. The primary changes have been made to the main search results panel of twitter.com.

  • Accounts or people have been merged into search results.
  • Photos are now showing search results.
  • A new photos tab on the left is joining results and people filters.

Twitter has added “Social Context”, a feature that will tell you have any relationship with the matching accounts that you are typing. In case you are already following an account, Twitter will show that. Twitter will also display the accounts that are being followed by the accounts you follow.

More users will notice a new drop-down menu when they enter keywords into the on-site search box. Social context will show post queries, accounts followed and suggested profiles.

With twitter at the helm of bringing search functions to the forefront of social media, it’s clear the most popular networks have their eyes set on social search marketing, which may be closer to fruition than many had thought.

In a nutshell, Twitter is catching up to what Google already does, and what Facebook is implementing with Graph search.
