We know that Google Analytics is a Web analytics service offered by Google that tracks and reports website traffic. But, what is Google Analytics Goals? You know that anything without a goal is a total failure, right? Similarly, your Google Analytics account without a goal is also of no use. Obviously, with your Google Analytics account, you can track how many people visited your site and where they came from, but what do you want to gain from these metrics? What actions do you expect your visitors to take that you want measure? If you have an answer to these questions, these are your Google Analytics Goals. And, if you don’t have these answers yet, you need to find them first. Professional SEO services in India can help you with all your goals and SEO elements if you are in need of assistance.

Every business would have a different goal, and you need to find out yours. Using different types of goals in Google Analytics, you can track things like how many people downloaded your catalogue, how many users played your video, how many people purchased from you, etc. You can also track negative metrics like how many users left without taking the particular action you wanted them to take. This way you can analyze how perfectly or poorly performing your pages are.

Once you have decided upon a goal for your website, you need to know how you can track your goals. There are four ways to track goals in Google Analytics, namely pages/visits, duration, events, and destination. Let us look at each one of them in detail.

Pages/visit goals

These goals help you track the number of pages a user goes through on every visit to your site. For this, you will have to set the number of pages, which will help you analyze how many users are actually going through your website and checking all the content available on different pages of your site. This is most effective for websites with content distributed on various pages, to determine the overall quality of the website’s content.

Duration goals

These goals will help you know how many people spend time on a particular page of your website, and in fact, the amount of time too. But for this, you need to set a minimum duration limit so that users who stay over that duration are counted as conversions for the particular goal. So, how will you set this time limit? First of all, you will have to go through each page of your website from the visitor’s viewpoint and try to figure out how quickly a user can go through the content to find relevant information. This will be your duration limit. However, if a large portion of your users stay below your set duration, it means that your page is not up to the mark, and requires improvements.

Event goals

These goals can track any interaction a user makes with your website like using a widget, viewing a video, using social media buttons, etc. These goals can be divided into categories, actions, labels, or values. Depending upon your requirement, you can use one or all of these elements to help you understand how many people are interacting with your content, which will help you analyz heir behaviour.

Destination goals

These goals keep track of specific URLs, wherein the goal is triggered each time someone visits the specific URL set by you. You can use these goals on those pages that are not commonly visible like download pages, confirmation pages, thankyou pages, etc. Because these pages are not otherwise visible, only a unique set of users who perform the desired action will reach there, thus helping you to get the most accurate data.

Now you have a complete understanding of what goals you should have and how you can track them. But, you yet do not know how you can set goals in Google Analytics. Well, it’s very simple. You will have to go to the Admin button on your Google Analytics panel, set the account and view you want to use, and then click “Goals” under the View tab. Then, you will have to press the +Goal button and select the type of goal you want. That’s it! Easy isn’t it? So, if you want to analyze your users and their actions in detail, you need to make Google Analytics Goals the top most tool in your toolbox!
